Samson was honoured at the BCCI Naman Awards 2026, held in New Delhi on March 15, as part of India’s 2026 T20 World Cup–winning squad. The wicketkeeper-batter also received official recognition for being named the Player of the Tournament by the ICC after a standout campaign.
The ceremony also felicitated the India national cricket team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, for winning the country’s third T20 World Cup title.
India created history by winning their third T20 World Cup title after a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Samson played a crucial role in the tournament, emerging as India’s leading run-scorer with 321 runs in five innings at an average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.37. His tally also surpassed Virat Kohli’s 319 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup, the previous record for most runs by an Indian in a single edition of the tournament.
Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals will face off in a crucial IPL clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Sunday with both teams still fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. Delhi Capitals are in a far more difficult position, having managed only 10 points from 12 matches so far. Another defeat would officially end their playoff campaign.
Following an eight-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani backed struggling wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, saying the team will continue to support him as he looks to regain form.
“They're calling me Chetta, but I like Sanju more. You try to see what works well, stick to the basics, and trust your hands to do the rest. I just stuck to the process, and it's working out well.
